Fired from my job
I was employed by Navy Federal Credit Union here in Fayetteville NC for 2 years. That was until December 20, 2010 when I was terminated for failure to protect the credit unions assets. On December 11, 2010 around 5.15pm I was waiting on a member making a deposit. when I heard everyone be calm and look down. When I looked up and to my left there was a masked man with a gun pointed in my face. He said give him the money. I couldn't believe this was happening to me, I saw my kids faces flash before my eyes and I asked myself did I tell them I loved them. I also thought about the member who was holding her son who was about 2 years old. The assistant manager just stepped into the work room and she had no idea what was going on and one other person stepped into the vault. I didn't want either one of them to come out and scare him and he start shooting or he come across the counter and force them to open the vault. He said look down and give him the money. I did exactly what he said, my drawer was to the left of me. I reached in with my left hand while looking straight down at the floor. I didn't want to make any sudden head movements and he get mad and start shooting. He asked me to give him the money in the other two windows, I told him that I couldn't and then he left. It wasn't until later that I realized that I failed to give out the security device. I honestly thought that I had done so. The credit union loss $3400.00 that day but the lives of everyone in there was saved. According the branch manager it was the Vice President Lee Gound's decision to let me go for failure to protect the credit unions assets. I begged for my job, I would have accepted a suspension with no pay but atleast I would have still had a job. I would have even given the money in my 401k if if meant I cold keep my job. If it was Mr Gound's family member who was the victim because that is what I was a victim, would he have been so quick to fire him or her. Better yet if it was him sitting in the chair with the gun in his face and he made the same mistake, how would he feel? What if he was a single parent like me trying to take care of two children on the only income. No matter how much training you have the situation is different when it is you it is happening too. I loved working for Navy Federal Credit Union, I was finally seeing the brighter side to things. Now it's not like they won't get the money back because they will, it's insured but the fact of the matter is I was let go for $3400.00. I am trying to figure out how I am going to provide for my two kids. How I am going to pay my mortgage. I don't know what I am trying to accomplish by this, but I want people to know that I think Navy Federal didn't value me as the employee. What did they do to protect me or the member. Nothing!!! Navy Federal let me down in more ways than one.
